A packet of meat has a strange job.
It has to sell somebody’s body while encouraging you not to think too much about whose body it was. Remove the face. Change the language. Cut the body into anonymous pieces. Put everything in plastic. Suddenly a pig becomes “pork”, a cow becomes “beef” and a chicken becomes a collection of breasts, thighs and wings. There is a psychological reason this works.
